Target Audience: Physicians who wish to advance their current knowledge of clinical cancer medicine in risk management and are involved in providing patient care in a cancer care environment.

Learning Objectives
After completing this course, the reader should be able to:

  1. Understand the incidence and impact of medical errors.
  2. Appreciate the effect on staff who make a significant mistake.
  3. Acknowledge that medical errors are inevitable.
  4. Learn about systematic approaches to prevention.
  5. Learn how sharing about personal mistakes in a confidential setting challenges the culture of shame and isolation that surrounds medical errors.
Note that this CME module is approved for specific CME credit in risk management, a requirement of licensure in some states.
